FAQ

Common questions

What counts as an "agent"?
An agent is one supervised process connected to your control plane via OpAMP — typically one per host or pod. If you run otelcol as a sidecar across 500 pods, that's 500 agents. Two collector binaries on the same host count as two.
What's an agent pack?
An agent pack adds 500 agents of capacity for $99/mo, on top of your plan's included fleet. Packs are available on Professional, Business, and Scale, and stack — add as many as you need. Pricing stays flat and predictable: a pack is a fixed monthly add-on, never a per-agent metered bill. Enterprise negotiates capacity directly.
What happens during the 14-day trial?
You get full access to Starter-tier features and up to 500 agents — more than the Starter cap, on purpose, so you can stress-test it. No credit card required. If you haven't picked a tier by day 14, your workspace is suspended: the dashboard locks to the billing page and your agents disconnect until you subscribe. Everything is kept for 30 days — reactivate in that window and it all comes back exactly as you left it. After 30 days the workspace is permanently deleted; we email you a week before that happens.
Why is SSO included on the cheapest paid tier?
Because security shouldn't be a paywall. SSO is a basic operational requirement for any team running production infrastructure — gating it behind an "enterprise" tier creates worse outcomes for everyone. We'd rather charge for fleet size and compete on the product.
What happens if I exceed my agent limit?
Your tier's limit applies to active agent connections — agents that aren't connected don't count against the cap. When you hit the limit, we open a one-time five-minute grace window with 10% extra headroom — enough to absorb a rolling deploy; a fresh window becomes available once your fleet drops back under the limit. Beyond that, new agent connections are rejected until you reduce the fleet or upgrade in-product.
Can I switch tiers, and is it prorated?
Yes — upgrade or downgrade right from the billing page. Both take effect immediately. Upgrades bill the prorated difference for the rest of the period; downgrades credit your unused time against future invoices, so you never pay twice for the same days. One guard on downgrades: your connected fleet has to fit the new tier's capacity first — reduce agents (or remove agent packs, if the smaller tier doesn't support them) and then switch.
Is there a self-hosted or air-gapped option?
Air-gapped deployment is on the Enterprise roadmap. Today, the control plane runs as our managed SaaS on Fly.io, with your agents connecting via OpAMP. Sample telemetry lives in our ClickHouse cluster — your full telemetry stays in your existing backend (Datadog, Grafana, Splunk, whatever).
What's the cancellation policy?
Cancel any time from the billing page — no calls, no retention emails. Cancellation takes effect immediately, and the prorated amount for your unused time is refunded to your card automatically (it may take 5–10 business days to appear). Your data is retained for 30 days after cancellation — email privacy@ampbase.io during that window and we'll put together an export of your configs, flags, and audit log.
